Fruits and Vegetables
Exciting things are happening in the Vegetable Department and with vegetables and fruits throughout New Hampshire and the United States. People are looking for local, fresh produce. We have closed our vegetable CSA but are busy planning to have both farm stands fully stocked; we also plan to attend several Farmer's Markets in the area.
Check out greenhouse # 6 for vegetable starts and cold frame # 4 is full of hardened off veggies. We will continue to attend the weekly farmer’s market Thursdays in Wolfeboro, 12:30 to 4:30 and, new for us, Sundays 10:00 to 1:00 in Ossipee.
For 2010 we will continue to grow hardy veggie starter plants for those of you with gardens at home. Some new varieties will be available along with tried and true favorites. We will also be carrying container varieties for those with limited space.
For field production we havel been planting frequently through out the season to ensure a continuous supply of fresh, local vegetables. We hire many local youths to work in the fields; some chores include hoeing, picking and washing vegetables, hoeing, watering, hoeing and learning various jobs in our several departments.
Community Supported Agriculture; CSA
Due to overwhelming interest we have closed the vegetable CSA for this growing season.
Our goal for the 2010 CSA vegetable season is to begin delivering produce the second week of July and go through the middle of October. Members will receive 14 deliveries of fresh produce over this period. Pick ups will be Mondays for small shares and Mondays and Fridays for large shares.
CSA for cut flowers is available for $100.00/share. Cut your own flowers 15 times throughout the season from the many varieties in the cut flower garden up to 20 stems per visit. For a sign-up sheet, please click Here.
Many vegetable plants are grown at Spider Web: Broccoli, cabbages, cauliflowers, squashes, Brussels sprouts, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, leeks and eggplants are just a few of the delicious vegetables you will find in the vegetable greenhouse and cold frames and can grow at home. We also grow melon and strawberry plants. Come in and check out all of our plants that will make your garden not only beautiful but delicious.
For delicious eating without the effort of growing, vegetables may be purchased at the little white house at Spider Web Gardens, or just down the road at the self-serve veggie stand. We start the spring off with parsnips and asparagus, soon other veggies like radishes and lettuce are ready and in the summer we grow delicious Sweet Chorus and Silver Queen corn as well as salad mix, spinach, kale, broccoli, scallions, collards, garlic scapes, swiss chard, cauliflower and beautiful cut flowers. Later in the season peppers, tomatoes, onions, green beans, summer squash, zucchini, cabbage, cukes, melons and leeks will be available. In September and October look for Brussels sprouts, winter squash, pumpkins and turnips.

Many of our veggies are sold as vegetable starter plants and can be found in greenhouse #6 and cold frame #4 as well as in the back greenhouses. All greenhouses are open to the public during the growing season.
