Tree & Shrub Planting Cheat Sheet

-
Choose the right spot: Sunny or partially shaded with well-draining soil.
-
Dig the hole: Slightly wider than the root ball, no deeper than the plant’s height.
-
Prepare the roots: Gently loosen roots before planting.
-
Planting: Place the plant at the same depth it was in the container; backfill with soil and lightly press to remove air pockets.
-
Watering: Water deeply right after planting and continue consistent watering, especially during the first season.
-
Mulch: Add 2–3 inches around the base (keep a few inches from the trunk) to retain moisture and reduce weeds.
-
Pruning: Only remove damaged or crossing branches; avoid heavy pruning in the first season.
-
Monitor & care: Keep an eye on your plant, adjusting water and checking for pests as needed.

Tip: Following these steps gives your tree or shrub the best start for strong roots, healthy growth, and years of enjoyment.
